Lockheed’s Attack Carrier: The CL-1201
Back in the late 60’s, Lockheed were designing what would have been the largest aircraft ever built if the government of the day had approved the project.
The aircraft would have a wingspan of 1,120 feet, a fuselage length of 560 feet, a gross weight of 11,581,800 pounds. It was intended to be used as a flying aircraft carrier with the possibility of carrying 22 fighter jets under its wings and have an aircraft hangar built in its body.
Sounds insane but then some people in the military tend to be somewhat insane and don’t worry about wasting taxpayers’ money.
